Cooling tower system valves

The power plant first generates steam from the boiler combustion, and then it is sent to the steam turbine, which drives the generator to generate electricity through the rotation of the steam turbine. The exhaust gas of the steam turbine enters a cold end equipment which called condenser, after condenses into water, then sent to the feed pump by the condensate pump, and then enters the boiler, thus forming a thermal cycle. Power plants rely on this process to generate electricity continuously.


The function of cooling tower in power plant is to use the air flowing from bottom to top to cool the water flowing from top to bottom. The main function of the cooled water is to send it to the condenser to condense the steam which has done work in the steam turbine into water and then send it back to the boiler for heating. Without this cooling tower, the steam cannot be condensed into water and sent back to the boiler. The thermal cycle of the power plant cannot be established and the working medium cannot be recovered.


In the cooling tower, there are a circulating water inlet, a circulating water outlet, a reclaimed water supplement outlet, a tap water supplement outlet, a drain outlet, an overflow outlet, and a connection port between the two cooling towers. All of these need pipes to connect them, and need valves to control the flow of each pipe orifice.

Pipeline and valve selection

The circulating water system flow is: Circulating water pump house - pressure steel tube - condenser - drain - natural ventilation cooling tower - circulating water return ditch - circulating water pump house.

Normal condition: circulating water pump house - DN2400 penstock - external circulating pipeline of condenser - drainage pipe - DN2400 upper tower main valve - water pouring packing spray cooling - falling into the collecting basin - circulating water return ditch - circulating water pump inlet; (bypass valve closed)

Low temperature: circulating water pump house - DN2400 penstock - external circulating pipeline of condenser - drainage pipe - dn1400 bypass pipeline valve - heat supply branch - heat pump unit - heat pump return pipe - cooling tower return ditch - collecting basin - circulating water return ditch - circulating water pump inlet; (main valve closed)
